Happy Shopping Guys!

I had an interesting conversation with a male friend yesterday.  We chatted about the challenges men have opposed to women when it comes to shopping.  As women, we have so many places to shop.  Our outfits can look expensive and exquisite, without us having to spend a fortune on them.

Have you ever noticed in stores how large the women’s department is compared to the men’s?  Or even how many choices women have?  Women can often find great deals and quality clothing at stores such as Marshalls, T.J.Maxx and Ross.   I’ve purchased an entire outfit (accessories and all) for less than $150 at these stores… LOL!  That definitely would not buy an entire outfit for a man.  When I really took time to think about all of this, I really felt sorry for the guys.

Well, unfortunately I don’t think we can do anything about the lack of options in stores or sizes of men’s departments, but I have a few basic shopping and fashion wardrobe tips for our men folk 🙂

1. If you aren’t skilled at putting together outfits, consider the latest fashion magazines for new styles and trends.  Make sure you check out the colors and hot brands.  Look at the outfits in the magazines and if you see a look you like and rip that page out.  Take the pictures to various stores and ask the store associates to help find something similar.  If you don’t like this idea, simply take the page to a store you do shop at and try to find something similar.

2.  Sometimes people become too focused on wearing name brands, without considering whether the items really fits.  The truth is no one really cares what brand you wear, so buy whatever is comfortable and fits you well.  A general rule is to always consider the quality to be more important than the brand.

3. Spend the most money on your shoes.  Shoes should be considered as more of an investment rather than expense.  Everyone knows you can have a fashionable wardrobe without spending a fortune, but when it comes to shoes, you should actually expect to spend more.  Expensive shoes are normally better quality and more durable than cheap one’s.  I can’t speak for all women, but most women will evaluate and make a judgment on a man simply by looking at his shoes.  Low-priced shoes are usually associated with cheap mannerisms and women usually don’t like cheap men.  The thought is if he is wearing cheap shoes, then she may come to the conclusion that he is a cheap person; not frugal, but cheap.  This may seem pretty far fetched, but in fact, it isn’t.  Ask a female friend and you may be surprised about her opinion on the matter.  Why risk potentially losing out on a hot member of the opposite six because you didn’t want to spend a few extra dollars for quality shoes?
