Ladylike: Modern Art Deco Style

Happy Monday! For today’s style inspiration, I’m bringing back the classic Art Deco style with a modern-day twist. The Art Deco style started in the early 1920’s and lasted until right before World War II.  During that time, there was a sense of excitement and expectancy with anticipation of a future filled with promise.  The women’s liberation movement, a prosperous economy, and key improvements in technology were attributes that led to progressive modernity, luxury and leisure – all of which was a new way of life.  The fashion during that time was simply gorgeous! I’m wearing a dramatic asymmetrical winter white cloche hat, adorned with feathers and diamonds, which I paired with a luxurious yellow cape stole wrap.  Both pieces are typical of the Art Deco style.  The cape stole wrap is usually worn over a party dress or ball gown, but for a more up to date look I kept with the same color scheme and paired it with a pencil skirt. It just goes to show you can create a modern look with a little vintage flair.   I hope it inspires you to bring back pieces from the past and incorporate them into your wardrobe today.   Here are the outfit details. Will Work For Fashion

Everyone who knows me knows I’m passionate about my work.  Today I was asked why I became a Fashion/Personal stylist.  My response was this: “When you’re a fashion/personal stylist you not only work with clothing, but more importantly with people.  My love for helping people runs deep!  People entrust me to make them not only look good, but feel good.  It’s more than just having a love and great sense of the latest fashions.  It’s a personal collaboration to help people define their style and reach their best potential with regards to their wardrobe and confidence level.  I take my job very seriously, which is why I Will Work For... read more

Be A BOSS

Being a BOSS is a frame of mind! Today I had a business meeting and wore my Christian Louboutin Pigalle pumps. These pumps give me a pioneering spirit, make me feel energized, excite my emotions and motivate me to take action. The Pigalle is named after one of Louboutin’s favorite neighborhoods in Paris.  One of his most iconic styles, they have been around for a while, but they will always be my favorite. I paired my Pigalle’s with a grey skirt and red blouse and felt like a BOSS. The Christian Louboutin Pigalle can be found here.  I hope you like them as much as I do! 🙂   Other outfit details: Blouse: Bryan Bradley Skirt:  L.A.M.B Handbag:  Dover (Vintage) (Revolver Boutique)   Love, The Ultimate... read more

Animal Print Excites My Soul

There’s just something about how animal print excite my soul!  I haven’t quite figured it out yet.  It could be because it’s considered to be rather exotic, and I almost take on the characteristic of the animal.  Whether it be a leopard or cheetah, it makes me feel fierce! I remember watching the movie Tarzan the Ape Man on television when I was a child, and falling in love with Jane’s leopard-patterned clothing.  It wasn’t just her independent spirit that captured me.  It was also the excitement and adventure of the jungle that created my sensation for animal prints.  The movie dates back to the 1930s, so these prints have certainly been around a long time.  During the Bohemian movement in the late 1960s, animal print became even more popular for women in the United States, which is not surprising given the artistic lives of people during that era. Animal print has remained timeless.  What I love the most about the print is its flexibility and the way it can be mixed with other prints so well as if it were neutral, and on the other hand can truly command attention and stand on its own. Here’s my outfit of the day where this animal print is not competing for any attention.  The deets can be found below.   The outfit details: Silk Blouse:  Parker Black Leggings:  Juicy Couture Animal-print Calf Hair Clutch:  Michael Kors (similar here) Shoes:  Vince. I Wear What I Want and Why

How many people can truly say they wear what they want? I feel this way now, but there was a time in my life when that wasn’t always the case.  When I was younger, I not only lacked the confidence to express myself through my wardrobe, but also the knowledge of my style to be able to pull outfits together.  I thought being well dressed meant wearing the latest trends or name brands. As time went on I learned two things which began to slowly change how I looked at my wardrobe.  The first is trends are great, but like the wind they come and go.  The second is name brands are wonderful, but they don’t always guarantee style.  True style is knowing who you are and being able to express yourself beyond limits. At the age I am now, my perspective with regards to how I look at getting dressed every day has completely changed.  I truly believe dressing is a form of art and expressing oneself.  Every day is a chance to not only be creative, but to show the world who you are. It’s not about acquiring new clothes, but more about learning what looks good on you and how to work with your wardrobe to portray your personal style.  Most people don’t maximize their wardrobe, meaning they are not only wasting money, but not being the most stylish version of themselves.  It’s no secret that clothes project a message about who we are, but I would also equally say they play a part in how we feel.  My philosophy is, if you always want to... read more

A Day to Celebrate Love!

Hi Ladies, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner.  Do you have your outfit yet?  If not here’s an outfit idea for a day to celebrate love.  If you really want to make a bold statement, you might choose to wear the color combination of red and pink, since most people only wear one or the other at a time. As long as I have been wearing these colors, I was surprised to learn their true meaning.  The color red energizes, excites the emotions, exudes a strong and powerful presence, and is the color of love.  Pink on the other hand is feminine, romantic, and represents compassion, nurturing and universal love.  It tones down the physical passion of red replacing it with a gentle loving energy.  Knowing the meaning of these colors, and combining them together made for a great balance of energy. This year for Valentine’s Day I decided to do something different and celebrate a day of love by throwing a Girls Night In party.  The dress code is red and pink.  We’re going to play games, listen to music, watch movies, and just have fun!  Don’t get it twisted, it’s not because we’re a desperate bunch of losers who can’t get dates.   Instead, it’s my way of showing my girlfriends how much I love and appreciate them by spending time.  Showing love isn’t always a fancy dinner and expensive gifts, and it definitely doesn’t need a specific day to celebrate it.  After all, love can’t be limited to a single day! How ever you may decide to spend your day, I hope it’s filled with lots... read more

Monochromatic Mix-Up

Hey Lovelies, Over the past year, I’ve seen this skirt worn a million ways. Well maybe not a million, but a lot – so I decided to try something different by using a purple monochromatic color scheme. According to Wikipedia, monochromatic colors are all the colors (tints, tones, and shades) of a single hue. By using a range of contrasting tones, they can attract attention and create focus. The use of a monochromatic color also provides a strong sense of visual cohesion. To mix it up a bit, I combined textures and shapes by introducing a black and white wide striped skater skirt with iconic knitwear zig zag pumps. The result was a monochromatic ensemble with depth and dimension through the use of connotative color. See below to recreate this look. Say It With Flowers

Sometimes it’s what you say and how you say it.  Have you heard the phrase, “Say it with flowers?”  There’s a reason for the phrase — flowers really do help people say things! If you can’t tell, I’m screaming “I’m ready for spring!” Sorry guys I’m just not a winter person, and it seems this season has lasted forever.  I’m ready to put it all behind me for more sunny days.  Don’t get me wrong, I have a deep appreciation for the four seasons.  After all, I wouldn’t be able to wear my cozy sweaters, luxurious scarves, or fabulous furs if it weren’t for winter, but today I just seriously needed a pick-me-up.   To combat the winter blues, I decided to wear a luscious vintage floral outfit.  This prized pattern provided the perfect pop of color to brighten up my day.  I love the vivid print because of its femininity, and the lightweight style is also perfect for a Valentine’s Day date. So let’s hear what outfits you wear to combat the winter blues? Here’s my outfit details: Floral blouse and skirt: Anne Klein II (vintage) Brass metal mesh purse: Whiting & Davis (vintage) Revolver Consignment Heels: BCBGMAXAZRIA Women’s Lavi Dress Sandal  http://www.amazon.com/BCBGMAXAZRIA-Womens-Lavi-Dress-Sandal/dp/B00H3IE3P0 Cateye sunnies: (vintage) Revolver Consignment   Until next time, stay Flawless! It’s All about Style!

All around the world fashion enthusiasts are gearing up for New York Fashion Week (Fall/Winter 2015), starting during the second week in February.  I thought it would be fun to wear a graphic top showing where three out of the four most prominent fashion weeks are held in the fashion capitals of the world:  Paris, London, and of course New York.  The other not displayed is Milan. This top has been sitting in my closet forever, but the timing of wearing it now seems perfect. Some women question whether graphic tops are appropriate when it comes to their age.  I truly can’t say I’d chosen not to wear my top because of that concern.  I simply forgot about it.  My response to those types of questions will never change… “It’s All about Style”! If you can’t tell by now I’m not an advocate of clear-cut rules when it comes to style; however, my recommendations pertaining to wearing graphic tops is to consider some basic things. First and foremost, ask yourself how comfortable you feel wearing the top.  It may be a great fit, but if you don’t feel comfortable wearing it you will stick out like a sore thumb.  Hence, your confidence level and outfit should be like peanut butter and jelly; or like husband and wife.  They just go together, and one without the other is incomplete! 🙂 Another more important thing to consider is the message displayed, and whether it portrays who you are.  Graphic tops obviously call more attention to the person wearing them, so it’s always good practice to use good judgement about what they... read more
