The things we do for food! Recapping the Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo

Raleigh has been experiencing record high temperatures for the past week or so, and last Saturday was no exception.  Two girlfriends and I decided to brave the heat and head downtown to the Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo on Fayetteville Street, like the rest of the 1,000 people who usually attend.  Though the scorching temperatures spared us no mercy, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. If you live in the Triangle, but haven’t heard of the local Food Truck Rodeo’s by now, you either aren’t a foodie, or must be living under a rock.  Last Saturday’s event had over 50 trucks across the State of NC come to take part in the festivities. It was my first time attending a rodeo, and the hardest decision was choosing which truck for my main meal.  After walking around to view all of my options, I decided on a truck called Dank Burrito, which is based in Morehead-City, NC.  All I can say is I’m SO glad I did.  The Teriyaki Shrimp Soft Taco’s with mushrooms, zucchini, and yum yum sauce was absolutely phenomenal!   I can see why Dank Burrito earned it’s title of 2014 Mobile Cuisine Rookie Food Truck of the Year.  Read all about that here:  News and Observer If you haven’t had a chance to check out the Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo, there’s two more opportunities to do so this year on August 10 from 3:30 pm until 9 pm and October 12 from 12:30 pm until 6 pm.   I certainly plan on attending again since there are several trucks I was dying to try but didn’t have a chance. Hopefully...

Let the Races Begin! VIR and MotoAmerica Road Racing Series Here I Come and Ticket Giveaway

I’m ready for a fun, short getaway trip this weekend!  As I searched for local things to do, I stumbled upon hearing about the third round of the MotoAmerica Road Racing Series being hosted at the VIRginia International Raceway in Danville, VA from May 15-17.  MotoAmerica is a professional racing series created in 2014, and sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and the Federation of International Motorcycling (FIM) North America. This event is perfect for what I was looking for and convenient for my needs of a day trip and mini vacation.  It’s a family friendly environment, and only one hour away from the Raleigh area.  The MotoAmerica event will include two full days of racing – a double-header event for the Superbike, Superstock 1000, Supersport and Superstock 600 classes, plus other support races.   I’ve always been an huge motorcycle racing fan, but never had an opportunity to experience seeing a live race.  To know there will be Superbikes racing at speeds of nearly 200 mph on a world-class race track such as VIR excites me to no end!  Also VIR is ranked as one of the top tracks in the world by numerous racing publications. In my research I also discovered that VIR is actually a full vacation destination itself.  It boosts everything for a fun-filled action packed getaway such as full hotel, shooting sports, a spa, restaurants, off roading, golf cart team activities, skid pad and more in a beautiful country setting.  I’m definitely planning on taking advantage of the wonderful amenities.  Motorcycle racing and a spa!  What more could a girl ask for? Now...
I Wear What I Want and Why

I Wear What I Want and Why

How many people can truly say they wear what they want? I feel this way now, but there was a time in my life when that wasn’t always the case.  When I was younger, I not only lacked the confidence to express myself through my wardrobe, but also the knowledge of my style to be able to pull outfits together.  I thought being well dressed meant wearing the latest trends or name brands. As time went on I learned two things which began to slowly change how I looked at my wardrobe.  The first is trends are great, but like the wind they come and go.  The second is name brands are wonderful, but they don’t always guarantee style.  True style is knowing who you are and being able to express yourself beyond limits. At the age I am now, my perspective with regards to how I look at getting dressed every day has completely changed.  I truly believe dressing is a form of art and expressing oneself.  Every day is a chance to not only be creative, but to show the world who you are. It’s not about acquiring new clothes, but more about learning what looks good on you and how to work with your wardrobe to portray your personal style.  Most people don’t maximize their wardrobe, meaning they are not only wasting money, but not being the most stylish version of themselves.  It’s no secret that clothes project a message about who we are, but I would also equally say they play a part in how we feel.  My philosophy is, if you always want to...
Monochromatic Mix-Up

Monochromatic Mix-Up

Hey Lovelies, Over the past year, I’ve seen this skirt worn a million ways. Well maybe not a million, but a lot – so I decided to try something different by using a purple monochromatic color scheme. According to Wikipedia, monochromatic colors are all the colors (tints, tones, and shades) of a single hue. By using a range of contrasting tones, they can attract attention and create focus. The use of a monochromatic color also provides a strong sense of visual cohesion. To mix it up a bit, I combined textures and shapes by introducing a black and white wide striped skater skirt with iconic knitwear zig zag pumps. The result was a monochromatic ensemble with depth and dimension through the use of connotative color. See below to recreate this look. Say It With Flowers

Say It With Flowers

Sometimes it’s what you say and how you say it.  Have you heard the phrase, “Say it with flowers?”  There’s a reason for the phrase — flowers really do help people say things! If you can’t tell, I’m screaming “I’m ready for spring!” Sorry guys I’m just not a winter person, and it seems this season has lasted forever.  I’m ready to put it all behind me for more sunny days.  Don’t get me wrong, I have a deep appreciation for the four seasons.  After all, I wouldn’t be able to wear my cozy sweaters, luxurious scarves, or fabulous furs if it weren’t for winter, but today I just seriously needed a pick-me-up.   To combat the winter blues, I decided to wear a luscious vintage floral outfit.  This prized pattern provided the perfect pop of color to brighten up my day.  I love the vivid print because of its femininity, and the lightweight style is also perfect for a Valentine’s Day date. So let’s hear what outfits you wear to combat the winter blues? Here’s my outfit details: Floral blouse and skirt: Anne Klein II (vintage) Brass metal mesh purse: Whiting & Davis (vintage) Revolver Consignment Heels: BCBGMAXAZRIA Women’s Lavi Dress Sandal  http://www.amazon.com/BCBGMAXAZRIA-Womens-Lavi-Dress-Sandal/dp/B00H3IE3P0 Cateye sunnies: (vintage) Revolver Consignment   Until next time, stay Flawless!
