A Day to Celebrate Love!

A Day to Celebrate Love!

Hi Ladies, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner.  Do you have your outfit yet?  If not here’s an outfit idea for a day to celebrate love.  If you really want to make a bold statement, you might choose to wear the color combination of red and pink, since most people only wear one or the other at a time. As long as I have been wearing these colors, I was surprised to learn their true meaning.  The color red energizes, excites the emotions, exudes a strong and powerful presence, and is the color of love.  Pink on the other hand is feminine, romantic, and represents compassion, nurturing and universal love.  It tones down the physical passion of red replacing it with a gentle loving energy.  Knowing the meaning of these colors, and combining them together made for a great balance of energy. This year for Valentine’s Day I decided to do something different and celebrate a day of love by throwing a Girls Night In party.  The dress code is red and pink.  We’re going to play games, listen to music, watch movies, and just have fun!  Don’t get it twisted, it’s not because we’re a desperate bunch of losers who can’t get dates.   Instead, it’s my way of showing my girlfriends how much I love and appreciate them by spending time.  Showing love isn’t always a fancy dinner and expensive gifts, and it definitely doesn’t need a specific day to celebrate it.  After all, love can’t be limited to a single day! How ever you may decide to spend your day, I hope it’s filled with lots...
Monochromatic Mix-Up

Monochromatic Mix-Up

Hey Lovelies, Over the past year, I’ve seen this skirt worn a million ways. Well maybe not a million, but a lot – so I decided to try something different by using a purple monochromatic color scheme. According to Wikipedia, monochromatic colors are all the colors (tints, tones, and shades) of a single hue. By using a range of contrasting tones, they can attract attention and create focus. The use of a monochromatic color also provides a strong sense of visual cohesion. To mix it up a bit, I combined textures and shapes by introducing a black and white wide striped skater skirt with iconic knitwear zig zag pumps. The result was a monochromatic ensemble with depth and dimension through the use of connotative color. See below to recreate this look. Say It With Flowers

Say It With Flowers

Sometimes it’s what you say and how you say it.  Have you heard the phrase, “Say it with flowers?”  There’s a reason for the phrase — flowers really do help people say things! If you can’t tell, I’m screaming “I’m ready for spring!” Sorry guys I’m just not a winter person, and it seems this season has lasted forever.  I’m ready to put it all behind me for more sunny days.  Don’t get me wrong, I have a deep appreciation for the four seasons.  After all, I wouldn’t be able to wear my cozy sweaters, luxurious scarves, or fabulous furs if it weren’t for winter, but today I just seriously needed a pick-me-up.   To combat the winter blues, I decided to wear a luscious vintage floral outfit.  This prized pattern provided the perfect pop of color to brighten up my day.  I love the vivid print because of its femininity, and the lightweight style is also perfect for a Valentine’s Day date. So let’s hear what outfits you wear to combat the winter blues? Here’s my outfit details: Floral blouse and skirt: Anne Klein II (vintage) Brass metal mesh purse: Whiting & Davis (vintage) Revolver Consignment Heels: BCBGMAXAZRIA Women’s Lavi Dress Sandal  http://www.amazon.com/BCBGMAXAZRIA-Womens-Lavi-Dress-Sandal/dp/B00H3IE3P0 Cateye sunnies: (vintage) Revolver Consignment   Until next time, stay Flawless! Elevate Your Look with a Fur Vest

Elevate Your Look with a Fur Vest

Depending on where you live you’re most likely experiencing transitional weather temperatures.  I live in North Carolina, and the temperature has consistently fluctuated from the 50’s down to the 30’s, sometimes all within the same week.  To combat these extreme changes in climate, one suggestion for your wardrobe is to wear fur vests.  They are luxuriously warm, light, and can be the perfect outerwear option for transitional temperatures. A fur vest can be rocked with just about anything ranging from a skirt, dress or leggings, but on this particular day I decided to wear one casually over distressed skinnys.  Let’s face it, all of us are looking to take our outfits to the next level.  Wearing a fur vest on top of a very simple outfit will do just that. A Few Quick Tips for wearing Fur Vests A fur vest will add volume so pair it with a tighter bottom, like a fitted skirt or skinnys. When buying a fur vest, size matters.  Avoid those with too much volume or too long if you are short and don’t wear heels, as they can make you look shorter because of the volume and length. If you have a few extra pounds, avoid those with too much volume and collars as they can make you look out of proportion. Back Into the Groove

Back Into the Groove

Happy New Year guys! I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays with family and friends as much as I did.  I’m back with a quick first post of the year.  This is currently one of my favorite jackets right now.  I love the fit, color, and pattern.  It’s versatile and works just right for leggings, jeans, a skirt or dress.  Lately I’ve been obsessing over neutral patterned jackets which are perfect for being paired with solids or other patterned pieces. My top favorite fall/winter 2014-2015 colors are shades of orchid, gray, black and white, yellow, aurora red, sangria, and navy blue.  They are quite impressive and glamorous.  Be sure to try to incorporate some of these colors into your wardrobe before the end of the season.   Jacket:  Yoana Baraschi, Similar here:  http://yoanabaraschi.com/yoanabaraschi/jackets-coats/sporting-life-geo-jacket.html Shirt:  Forever21 Leggings:  Marshalls Scarf:  From my closet Shoes:  Guess   Enjoy your week! My Grandma Dressed Better Than Me

My Grandma Dressed Better Than Me

Happy Monday Fashionistas! This past weekend I attended the 6th Annual Networking Social Featuring THE Hair & Fashion Show held in Raleigh, NC.  The event was organized by Ms. Melody Council, and featured local vendors displaying everything from hand-made jewelry, clothing, t-shirts, photography, make-up and much more.  It was an evening full of fun that also included raffles, door prizes, a fashion show, and getting to know fellow business owners as well as their products and services.  What a great way to support the small businesses that serve our community every day.  If you missed this event, be sure to catch the next one and you’ll be in for a treat! When I was deciding what to wear, what first came to mind was a cream lace turtleneck which was one of many items my mother had given me after my grandma passed away.  The holiday season has always been a time when I reminisce about her and my dad, and long to feel closer to them.  In the spirit of remembrance, especially during this time of the year, it always helps me get through the holidays to wear something of hers.   During the event, several people complimented my top and it felt great to bring up and talk about my grandma.  We talked about differences between vintage versus today’s clothing.  Grandma’s hand-me-downs are timeless treasures for a number of reasons.  Women back then didn’t just dress up every now and then; they dressed to impress for all occasions.  Clothes were better because the material was higher quality and lasted longer.  Small details often overlooked within fashion trends...
