Southern Girls and Pearls

Southern Girls and Pearls

This is a man’s world!  This is a man’s world!  But it wouldn’t be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl. It’s no secret that southern girls LOVE pearls!  I’m truly a southern girl at heart.  Today I decided to rock my pearls, but with my man’s hat.  I know it’s an unconventional combination, but that’s me in a nutshell. Growing up I was somewhat of a tomboy, which plays significantly into who I am today.  I didn’t discriminate.  I played with both girls and boys.  I recall going from playing with dolls and double dutch with girls, to dodgeball and softball with boys.  I was never made to feel like I had to choose sides.  That in turn is displayed through my personal style in loving to pull together looks that have a great balance between a feminine and masculine feel. The good thing is there are no rules!  The moral of the story is don’t let gender specific items stop you from experimenting with and expressing your own personal style. I hope you had an enjoyable St. Patrick’s Day and wish you a great weekend ahead! Mad For Plaid

Mad For Plaid

It’s no secret how much I love mixing prints, but today I decided a different mix that’s not typically seen.  I’m mad for plaid y’all! Yes I broke the fashion rules that tell you to avoid pairing plaids, but who made those rules any way?   I decided to mix this larger buffalo plaid print with a smaller tartan print for an unexpected twist on this pattern. So why don’t you take the plaid trend and give it an update?  You’ll end up looking like a polished professional woman, who loves a traditional fabric and knows good style.       Photography by:  Em Grey Photography Shop a similar look at LIKEtoKNOW.it //Hat// (Vintage: Gifted from my Mother) //Republic Clothing Group Detachable Zipper Blazer// (Similar here: Jollychic Stylish Detachable Lap Long Sleeve Ladies Cropped Blazer) //Zara Plaid Skirt // (Similar here: CUTIE Knee length skirt) //Cromia Aurora Shopper Handbag// (Old) //Silvie Pumps by Madison// (ShoeDazzle)   Love, The Ultimate...
Knock The Chill Off

Knock The Chill Off

Lately the temperatures have constantly fluctuated in Raleigh, NC, and you really have to put forth an effort to think about how to dress due to the constant changes.   For days when it’s chilly outside but you still need to cover up, I’ve found the perfect versatile piece. I’m currently obsessed with my long waistcoat.  Not only are these vests functional and perfect for layering without the bulk, they also add shape and structure to any look.  The flexibility is endless!  Although I’m wearing my vest with a skirt, they also look great with boyfriend jeans or slacks.  I also love the fact that these vests make you look taller by elongating your torso. During times like now when the weather is unstable, these vests can be a life saver.  They will also transition well into spring.  Although I’ve been layering mine lately with shirts and sweaters to kick the chill off, I definitely plan to ditch the fur collar and rock it sleeveless soon. A Salute to Style

A Salute to Style

I took charge of my wardrobe with this military jacket I picked up over the holidays while shopping.  I’m in love with the deep rich red, gold and black combination along with button adornment.  For fun, I paired it with my ripped jeans, leo logo clutch and threw in my leopard pumps to mix it up.  This look will hopefully provide inspiration. While this blog post is about style and having fun with it, I take the military very seriously.  Being a veteran and having served in the military for 8 years, I have the utmost respect for my fellow veterans, and those who are currently serving.  My heart is happy any chance I get to wear something that remind me of the sacrifices those have made.  With that said, I take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to our military! Citified

Citified

I’m a southern gal at heart, but every now and then I like to get citified!  The suburbs have so much to offer; however, there are a lot of days when I just miss the big city life.  Having lived in the DMV for over 10 years has made me diverse in my taste for food and fashion.  On the days when I’m home sick, I make it a point to head straight downtown to get my city fix. What I miss the most with living in the city is seeing more urban street style dressing.  When I headed downtown, I wore cut off shorts and a leopard tank but needed a little something more to complete the look.  I ended up putting on a long crochet vintage duster, which was perfect for walking around the city to grab a small bite or coffee with friends. The duster was didn’t cover up my look, and allowed me to stay cool while adding a fun piece to pull the look together. // Leopard Tank (Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger) // // Shorts (old) // // Tie-up Suede Sandals (Paco Gil) // // Bohemian Crochet Vintage Duster (Amazon)// // Make up (Reveal Cosmetics) // Photography by:  Em Grey Photography Love, The Ultimate Fashionista...
